Alumni of #22 RCSCC UNDAUNTED, Calgary

Quadra Alumni Association Scholarship

20-year-old Mikaela Schmidt of Calgary joined the cadet program at #21 NLCC Captain Jackson in 2012 and finished as a sea cadet with #22 RCSCC Undaunted in 2017. During her time in Sea Cadets, she enjoyed learning about different boats and eventually became an instructor in the Small Craft Operator’s Program (SCOP) at the Cadet Training Centre at HMCS Quadra. She also spent one summer as Divisional Petty Officer of a Ship’s Boat Operator Division. (SBO).

While active with her sea cadet corps, she served in many different roles including Chief of Training and Company Commander. She was proficient in the biathlon and marksmanship programs.

Currently, she is a third- year nursing student at Mount Royal University. She has already completed several practicum placements, and this year she will rotate through many more, including Mental Health. In her free time, she enjoys running, baking, listening to music, and reading a variety of books. Additionally, she works as a lifeguard at the YMCA.

This scholarship will help alleviate some of the stress of tuition payments, enabling her to focus on her education and on helping those she encounters in her clinical rotations. She is grateful for the generosity of QEF donors, which will help support her ability to pursue her nursing education.
