Bravo Zulu to the Top Sea Cadet Officer in Canada

By Captain Grant Cree
Unit Public Affairs Representative

Every year, the Navy League of Canada presents the National President’s Award to one CIC Officer in the country. The recipient of this award is selected by the National Board of Directors in recognition of outstanding leadership. The individual must have demonstrated a clear understanding of, and dedication to, the aims and objectives of The Navy League of Canada.

Jocelyn Park, President of Alberta Division for the Navy League of Canada, made a surprise presentation moments after the cadet awards during the Annual Ceremonial Review on May 29, 2019 of 299 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps in Stony Plain, Alberta.

“Early this year, I had the privilege of being part of the nomination process for one of our own for this award,” said Ms. Park to the cadets, parents and supporters of the local Sea Cadets. “On April 27, 2019, while attending the National AGM in Ottawa, I had the honour and privilege of accepting this award on behalf of that Alberta Division officer.”

Ms. Park told the hushed audience that the selected officer has a clear understanding of what it means to be a part of the Navy League of Canada, and the Canadian Cadet Organization. “This officer can be counted on by the Branch, the Division, the Navy League Commander, and of course, RCSU Northwest, to always give freely of their time, energy, ideas and commitment,” said Ms. Park.

“This evening, I’m even more privileged to present the Navy League National President’s award for Top Sea Cadet Officer in Canada to the fantastic, phenomenal and fabulous . . . Lieutenant (Navy) Dayle Pett!” Everyone cheered and applauded as Lt(N) Pett, Commanding Officer of 299 RCSCC, stepped forward to receive her award from Ms. Park.

Shortly after the Annual Ceremonial Review concluded, Lt(N) Pett, shared her thoughts on the award. “As CIC officers, we give it one hundred percent,” she said. “To be awarded for doing everything that I love to do is very surprising. I just can’t believe it. I mean, Top Sea Cadet Officer for all of Canada? Is that for real? I’m just blown away.”
